MyUni Document Conversion

Document conversions are used to provide MyUni users with course material documents in a common, compact file format to download and/or view. In most circumstances, converting documents to pdf format (Adobe Acrobat file type) produces such benefits as reduced file size and increased accessibility. Additionally, pdf documents cannot be edited directly. The file types that most often benefit from conversion to pdf format are PowerPoint (.ppt), html (.html or .htm) and Microsoft Word (.doc).

Procedure

In order to complete a document conversion request, contact the OnLine Education Helpdesk and provide the following information;

  • Instructions on where to retrieve the file if it is not attached to an email. These should stipulate the MyUni course ID and where the file is located in the course.
  • Instructions outlining the desired properties of the converted document. Eg PDF document 2 colour slides per page.
  • The original source document should be in a suitable file format (.DOC, .RTF, .PPT).
  • It is preferred that colour images in a document be in .JPG format, and black and white images in .GIF format. If this is not possible we shall convert them.

Costs

There are no costs associated with these standard service requests.

Timelines

The Online Education Helpdesk has a 48 hour turn-around time for document conversions, although conversion within 24 hours is the aim. If there are a large number of files to convert in the request or the file needs a lot of work for the pdf document to be acceptable, the turn-around time may be longer.
