MyUni Course Copy

Course materials are automatically copied (migrated) from the current version of a course to the next year's version of the course. For example, materials from 2510_ECON_1000 will automatically be transferred to 2610_ECON_1000. A course copy can be requested if this content migration is unsuccessful or in situations where the content from one course is required in another course from the catalogue. This includes courses from any year in any term. When a course copy takes place, the content in the destination course is overwritten with the source course content.

Procedure

The following important points should be considered before requesting a course copy:

  • Discussion boards will be copied, but the date will be set incorrectly. To clear the discussion forums of these threads, go into the forum, click on "Show Options" then "Select All" then "Delete". You will need to do this for all forums.
  • Responses to assessments and gradebook entries for users will not be copied, but the assessment categories will be copied into the gradebook. If assessments were deployed in the source course, they will be deployed in the destination course, but set to "unavailable".
  • Responses to and entries for users will not be copied, but the assessment categories will be copied into the gradebook. If assessments were deployed in the source course, they will be deployed in the destination course, but set to "unavailable".
  • Groups will be copied without any members.
  • Staff Information is now copied
  • Unavailable items in the source course will be available in the destination course.

The items copied into the destination course will be set to "available" so they will be visible to the students enrolled in that course, but the destination course is set to "unavailable"so students are not able to access it. This is so the instructors can check the content copied over, edit content and delete/edit anything not appropriate for the students (e.g. tutorial solutions), before allowing them access to the content.

When submitting a course copy request, please specify:

  • The source course course description and course ID
  • The destination course course description and course ID
  • Additional details if appropriate.

For example the source and destination course material locations or the nature of the material to be copied (eg test, pools & surveys).

Costs

Course copies of a standard nature are free.

Timelines

Once all necessary information has been supplied, course copies are typically completed within one to two working days.

Policies

The standard University and IT Acceptable Use Policies apply: Compliance, Copyright and University Policy

Related services

Course instructors themselves are able to copy material within the Control Panel of the MyUni courses they are teaching. This can be done using the copy button alongside individual items, or by using the Export Course and Import Package functions. Various reference manuals are available and have detailed information on these tools. The MyUni Manual for Instructors is one such point of reference.
