About VPN

Virtual Private Networking (VPN) provides a secure encrypted way for University users to connect to the University's Network from anywhere in the world using an existing internet connection. When using an external ISP you will find that certain IT services cannot be accessed unless you use the VPN service provided by the University (e.g. users requiring to access files on network storage like U: & S: drives).

The University provides a VPN service to all IT users including staff and students that will ensure that you can connect in a safe and secure manner to the University network.

New Cisco Anyconnect VPN Solution

The new VPN solution went live Tuesday 22 November and users require a new client to access restricted services. The old system will be de-commissioned Friday 16 December 2011.

The primary changes to the new service are

  • Improved client software; easier to install, configure and use
  • Support for more client devices
  • SSL Web VPN clientless option provides the ability to access some services through a web browser, no need to install a client.
