Neep VPN Help?

[ expand / collapse ]

Have you tried following the guides from our Config & Usage Guides section but are still having issues? Below is some information on the most common issues experienced by clients.

For any further issues please contact Technology Support Staff.

There are a couple of issues with browsers on Windows, Apple and Linux computers.

Windows
  • Internet Explorer - Ensure all Windows Updates have been applied
  • Internet Explorer - Ensure you add vpn.adelaide.edu.au to trusted sites as with page 1 of the config guide
  • 3rd Party (e.g. Chrome/Firefox) - Java must be up to date, please ensure the latest Java patch is applied.
Apple
  • Safari - A small popup window may popup during install, this is sometimes hard to notice but you are required to accept to complete installations
  • 3rd Party (e.g. Firefox) - 3rd party browsers may not be as reliable for client install as Safari, no problems for Web VPN Portal
Linux
  • Firefox - Java must be up to date, please ensure the latest Java patch is applied.

Again this problem often refers to incompatibility with web browsers.

Java is required for features like SSH/Telnet and Terminal Services (except in Internet Explorer which uses Active X). All browsers should be running the latest Java version.

Mobile devices such as iPhones and Android smart phones do not support Java, the above features are not available from these devices.

The VPN service can only be accessed from off-campus, an exception to this has been made for the "UofA-help" wireless network. To install, configure and test your clients on campus please connect to this wireless network first.

Mobile devices like iPhones and Android smart phones download the client from the App Store/Market and this part must be done from the normal UofA wireless network (or your mobile service provider). Testing can then be done by the UofA-help wireless network or your mobile service provider.

If you are off-campus and having issues, please contact the Service Desk

Certificates are used to assist in verifying that you are connecting to a trusted device, this error suggests that there could be a issue with the identity of the server you are connecting to. In most cases there is not likely to be a problem, please follow the steps below to confirm the identity of the server.

  1. You will get an error similar to the below, click on "Unknown Publisher"
  2. Then click on "View Certificate" and confirm that the information on your screen matches exactly to the information in the red square on the image below. (Issue To, Issue By and Valid From)
If the information on your screen is different, do not install the certificate and contact the service desk immediately.
  3. Once you confirm the certificate details and therefore the identity of the VPN server, click on "Install Certificate" and follow the prompts.
  4. At the end of this process you can continue where you left off with the VPN installation process, you may need to start again.
