Files Migration ProjectThis part of the Infrastructure Program (the Files Project) is aimed at improving the University’s method of file storage. In particular, the Files Project will replace the current usage of Novell Netware servers for file storage with a Microsoft solution. The Files Project will provide several new features, hosted on new technology including;
The scheduled start date for the roll out of all these new features is September 2007. These new features will become progressively available to more staff and students as this and other Infrastructure projects progress. The first phase will give access to all users' home drives and the second phase will be to provide improved access to shared data which is currently scheduled to complete towards the middle of next year. Users will gradually get access to more data as the shared data is migrated to the new environment. How will this affect me?Once you have been moved over to the new environment you may notice some changes to the format of your home drive and shared drive. Details of home folder changes can be found by referring to http://www.adelaide.edu.au/its/projects/infrastructure/files/where which explains the new location of your home folder and changes to the standard drive mappings. For shared data in a particular area and were it is moving from and it's new location, please open the appropiate spreadsheet, based on the Division or Faculty. This spreadsheet contains all the necessary information about the shared data move, including who to contact if you require access to a shared folder.
