    HP PrecisionScan Pro desktop icon
  3. Save your files to your Home Directory (U:\).

Before you scan, bear the following in mind:

  • The highest resolution is not necessarily what you require.
  • Photographs scan better at a low resolutions, high resolutions will produce poor results.
  • Drawings scan better at higher resolutions, low resolutions will produce poor results.
  • What you see on the screen is not necessarily what you will get in print. A monitor will display for example 1024x768 pixels (dots) over its entire area. A printer is capable of producing 300 or 600 DPI (dotes per inch).
  • When imported into an application, the image may not look like the preview.
  • The higher the resolution, the larger the file. A file may be tens of megabytes. Many graphic formats produce large files. Use JPEG format to keep the file size small.
  • You may edit the image with the image/graphics applications.
  • You will need to experiment to get your desired results.

Burning CDs

CD Media Types

Recordable  (CD-R)

Re-writable until full but NOT erasable.
Rewritable (CD-RW)    Re-writable and Erasable

Also, CD-RW use proprietary formatting (see below) and may not be universally readable. They are also subject to data corruption (much like floppy disks).

CD Formatting

There are quite a few formats for CD burning, but you can only use two in the CATS:

  1. ISO – The data on this format is read only but all computers can read them without any special software. When you buy software to install on a computer this is the format that is used.
  2. UDF – This format makes the CD look like a normal disk to the computer and is used for the CD-RW format. It can be used like the hard drive or floppy disk. However the operating system has to have special software installed to do this. Windows XP has this built in, other systems will have to have it installed.

Tips

1. Use UDF format in Suites can be formatted using utility installed on your start menu.

2. Only use Rewritable CD for UDF format, preferably 12X speed.

3. Better not to work on CD directly, use network drive then copy work to CD.

4. In the Special Purpose Workstations in S312, you can create ISO CDs. Simply run the Easy CD (or Nero) Software and follow the instructions.
