Restoration of deleted files from your home drive

The files on your home drive (U:) are stored on the network and are backed up (copied) every night.  You can access these backups for the previous 5 days to undertake self service recovery of files you may have accidentally deleted or require a previous version of.

Note: The information below is also available for download as a word document

Procedure for self service recovery

  • Click on the Start menu, select 'All Programs' and click on the shortcut labelled 'Recover deleted files from U drive'

  • This will bring up a window that has 5 folders in it, these are the backups that are available to you. The folders are named by the date and time that each back up was taken.
Note: The name of the folder is the time of the backup - the date modified value does not correspond with the backup time.

  • Select the folder time of your choice and enter the folder. This folder will contain an exact copy of your files at the time that the backup was taken.

  • Select the files that you want to restore and copy them to your U: drive.
Note: You will be unable to save files within the backup folders.

  • Paste the files back in your U: drive to fully recover them.

  • You will now be able to resume working from the file/folders as normal.
