Managing Email Lists

Target Audience

This unit is aimed at staff who are required to manage e-mail lists.

Overview

This unit covers the Spam Act and the legal implications for managers of e-mail lists, and the creation and administration of e-mail lists.

Prerequisite and Co-requisite Courses

The course assumes that you are able to use a PC running Windows 95 or above. A knowledge of basic email use is assumed.

Course Duration

3.5 hours.

Competencies

At the completion of the course, attendees will be able to:

  1. Action a request for a mailing list.
  2. Ensure that all mandatory data has been supplied.
  3. Ensure that naming conventions have been observed.
  4. Create a mailing list.
  5. Set the general, privacy and digest options for the list and demonstrate an understanding of the appropriate settings for the different categories of mail lists.
  6. Subscribe to and unsubscribe from a mail list.
  7. Demonstrate an understanding of the business rules regarding list creation and management.
  8. Demonstrate an awareness of the Spam Act and its implications for the university.
  9. Locate documentation relating to email and the Spam Act.
