Cashiering

Target Audience

This course is aimed at staff who are required to receive payments from students and organisations relating to student fees and charges. Cashiering is currently used by staff of the Student Centre, Student Finance and the Roseworthy Campus Faculty Office of the Faculty of Sciences.

Overview

Cashiering covers the processes involved in processing payments from students, including payments from third party organisations. Payments may include cash, cheque, credit card, EFTPOS, telegraphic transfer and foreign currency; for services such as tuition, accommodation, deposits, bonds, overseas health cover and other non-tuition related fees. Participants will learn to manage the cashiering office, including end-of-day reconciliation.

Prerequisite and Co-requisite Courses

Staff are required to have attended Express Reports before attending Cashiering.

Course Duration

3.5 hours.

Competencies

At the completion of the course, attendees will be able to:

  1. Open the cashiers’ office.
  2. Process payments from students and organisations.
  3. Void receipts.
  4. Calculate tuition and fees (when necessary).
  5. Reprint receipts.
  6. Perform interim deposits.
  7. Balance by cashier.
  8. Close the cashiers’ office.
  9. Reopen the cashiers’ office for the same day.
  10. Perform inquiries and produce cashiering reports.
