Microsoft Office Specialist CertificationThe University of Adelaide is now an Authorised Testing Centre for Microsoft Office products. University staff and students now have the opportunity to become certified Microsoft Office Specialists. What is it? The
Microsoft Office Specialist qualification is internationally recognised and
is the only Office certification that is recognised and endorsed by Microsoft.
Certification is available at two levels each for Word and Excel, and one
level each for PowerPoint, Access and Outlook. Applicants receive a certificate
from Microsoft when successful.
Benefits for staffStaff will find certification useful when applying for new positions and as evidence of current skills. Certification increases credibility with current and potential employers and co-workers. Many people have found that the process of certification encourages them to learn more of the features in the applications they use, and in a greater depth, enabling them to work more effectively. Employers - including university managers - may consider certification as proof of competence and efficiency when considering hiring or promoting staff.Benefits for managersManagers benefit when their staff are certified. They have evidence of expertise in working with Microsoft Office programs and experience increased competence and productivity. Certification may also be used to indicate the training that might be required to ensure that staff can fulfil their duties successfully. It may be a useful measure when planning staff development activities.Benefits for studentsStudents may choose to become Microsoft Office Specialists in selected applications to help them stand out from other graduates when applying for work. The skills learned will also help students to save time, particularly when working with long documents such as theses and reports, and when working with spreadsheets. This certification is a portable, globally recognized credential that proves individuals' abilities as productive Microsoft Office users.About the examsApplicants undertake a one hour practical test using the selected software.
