Access 2003

The following units are recommended for Microsoft Certified Application Specialist certification:
Access 2003: Level 1
Access 2003: Level 2
Access 2003: Level 3
Access 2003: Level 4

There is currently no face-to-face training available for Access 2007.

The sample files used in all general Microsoft Office courses are available for download by clicking here. Our licence agreement restricts access to staff and students who have completed the relevant courses.


Access 2003: Level 1

Target Audience

This unit is aimed at staff and students looking for an introduction to Access 2003.

Prerequisite and Co-requisite Courses

This is the entry level course for Access 2003. The knowledge and skills covered in this unit will be assumed in the subsequent units.

Course Duration

3.5 hours.

Competencies

At the completion of the course, attendees will be able to:
  1. Explore Access
  2. Create tables
  3. Work with tables
  4. Print data from a table
  5. Modify tables
  6. Set the properties of fields in tables
  7. Create relationships between tables in a database
  8. Edit tables

Access 2003: Level 2

Target Audience

This unit is aimed at staff and students with a basic understanding of database tables and who want to know more about creating and developing queries in multi-table databases

Prerequisite and Co-requisite Courses

This course assumes knowledge of all items covered in Microsoft Office Specialist: Access 2003: Level 1. The knowledge and skills covered in this unit will be assumed in the subsequent units.

Course Duration

3.5 hours.

Competencies

At the completion of the course, attendees will be able to:
  1. Find and filter data
  2. Use simple queries to retrieve information
  3. Modify query results
  4. Use a variety of operators in queries
  5. Design advanced queries with calculated fields and functions

Access 2003: Level 3

Target Audience

This unit is aimed at staff and students wanting to increase their skills in creating forms.

Prerequisite and Co-requisite Courses

This course assumes knowledge of all items covered in Microsoft Office Specialist: Access 2003: Level 1 and Microsoft Office Specialist: Access 2003: Level 2. The knowledge and skills covered in this unit will be assumed in the subsequent unit.

Course Duration

3.5 hours.

Competencies

At the completion of the course, attendees will be able to:
  1. Create basic forms
  2. Manipulate controls in a form design
  3. Use design view with a form
  4. Use advanced form design to add combo boxes and list boxes
  5. Use editing tools for formatting forms

Access 2003: Level 4

Target Audience

This unit is aimed at staff and students wanting to increase their skills in developing reports and to obtain advanced skills in managing databases.

Overview

This unit covers the creation of reports to retrieve information from a database and a variety of techniques used for managing databases, and is suitable for people with an knowledge of creating multi-table databases with related queries and forms.

Prerequisite and Co-requisite Courses

This course assumes knowledge of all items covered in Microsoft Office Specialist: Access 2003: Levels 1 to 3.

Course Duration

3.5 hours.

At the completion of the course, attendees will be able to:
  1. Create basic reports
  2. Use advanced report design
  3. Use advanced database features
  4. Use Access and the internet
  5. Export data to Excel or Word
