Connecting a personally owned computer to the network

Sometimes visitors or other people need to connect their personally owned computers to the University network. The network connection granted will enable the user to connect to the Internet, access Web Mail and print to a network printer via IP. If you have a personally owned computer there are a number of means of connecting to the University network:

Personal computer wired network connections

Windows Computers

The connection of personally owned computers running a Windows Operating System to the University network is offered via Datacom, with the following conditions:

The computer must have an up-to-date Virus Protection and Operating System.
The business area must complete the Datacom Support Request Form
If the person is a visitor only for a short period of time, then the area will need to complete the "Authorisation for visitor access to IT services" form and fax it to the Technology Service Desk via: 8313 5775.
Access to the university file system (including U and S drives) is only available through Remote Files

Costs

Datacom will add the computer to the network, and install/update the Virus Protection and update the operating system with latest patches, to meet the University standards, for a fee of $120 per hour (ex GST) or part there of, minimum charge of 1 hour. One-Way travel costs will be incurred for all sites (excluding North Terrace & Waite campus).

Timelines

Depending on the severity and Datacom workload, this can take up to two weeks.

Macintosh Computer

Support for personally owned the Macintosh is performed by NextByte. Please complete "Authorization for Personal Access to the University Network" form. This service will be charged at their standard hourly rate.
