Support for Non-Standard/Personal Computers

Support

Datacom can provide support for the following items, via the Datacom Support Request form:

  • Personally owned computers being used for work on campus
  • Non-standard University owned computers being used for work on campus
  • Setup for Standard University owned computers being used for work at home
  • Peripherals (personal or University owned) being used for work on campus

The support offered by Datacom includes:

  • Connecting computers to University wired network
  • Installation of SOE on University owned computers
  • Troubleshooting software/operating system issues
  • Troubleshooting hardware issues 
Notes:
  • This support does not cover personal staff computers being used at home or student computers.
  • Datacom will not deal with warranty related issues. For all standard University owned Acer and Lenovo computers, Technology Services will assist with this service.
  • If you wish to obtain access to the University Network from home see the information about the VPN service provided.
  • If you have a wireless-enabled portable computer, and wish to gain access to the university's wireless network, see Wireless Networking.
  • Access to the university file system (including U and S drives) is only available through Remote Files
Costs

Datacom will provide support for the following hourly charges (ex GST):

 - $70 per hour for, items purchased through Datacom

 - $90 per hour for, items purchased elsewhere

or part there of, minimum charge of 1 hour. One-Way travel costs will be incurred for all sites (excluding North Terrace & Waite campus).

Datacom require a Purchase Order before they can process a support request. Please note that they do not accept cash, cheques or credit card payment.

Timeframes

Depending on the severity and Datacom workload, this can take up to two weeks.
