ARC Research Associate (Milk Components for Management of Diseases in Horticulture)

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to join our research on sustainable disease management in horticulture. This Australian Research Council Linkage Project is a collaborative venture between the University of Adelaide, the South Australian Research and Development Institute, MG Nutritionals (a division of Murray Goulburn Co-operative Co. Ltd), Organic Crop Protectants Pty, Temple Bruer Wines and Transgrain Technologies.

You will investigate the control of powdery mildew and botrytis diseases in horticulture and viticulture using milk components. Research will include studies of antifungal activity of milk fractions, chemistry and mode of action of selected fractions and field testing of candidate formulations. The position is based at the Waite Campus of the University of Adelaide, with field work in various parts of South Australia. You will work closely with Associate Professor Eileen Scott, Professors Otto Schmidt and Dennis Taylor, and Drs Paul Grbin, University of Adelaide, Trevor Wicks, SARDI and Ross Crittenden, MG Nutritionals, and other industry partners.

Position Requirements

You should have:

  • a PhD in Plant Pathology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Chemistry or other relevant discipline
  • a recent research profile in Plant Pathology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Chemistry or other relevant discipline
  • skills in host-pathogen interactions and preparation and analysis of bioactive materials within an experimental framework
  • demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a research team and to achieve performance targets within budget and time frame

Salary

(Level A) $62,014 – $66,567 per annum.

Plus an employer superannuation contribution of 17% may apply.

Term of Position

This fixed-term position is available immediately for a period of 3 years.
