The University is seeking to appoint an individual to the position of Associate Professor/Professor and Head in the School of Architecture, Landscape Architecture and Urban Design within the Faculty of the Professions.  The School is amongst Australia’s most prestigious Architecture and Landscape Architecture schools.  The School has over 370 students enrolled in various programs.

Outstanding scholars from any field of architecture, landscape architecture or urban design are encouraged to apply, although preference will be given to those with a strong record in design who can also provide strategic leadership.

As Head of School, you will play a key role in representing the School within the Faculty, the University and with key external stakeholders. You will have a successful track record managing financial, staff and administrative affairs in a complex educational and research environment. A distinguished internationally recognised research record and a demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence will also be expected.

 Position Requirements

You should have:

  • A PhD or equivalent in a discipline relevant to the School’s areas of strength and preferably in the area of architecture, landscape architecture or urban design.
  • Evidence of an internationally recognised research record in a discipline relevant to the School.
  • A demonstrated commitment to excellence in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching with excellent teaching evaluations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a management team and to provide leadership in the discipline of architecture, landscape architecture and urban design.
  • Demonstrated success in the management of staff, finance and infrastructure including an understanding of strategic plans and business plans which incorporate financial planning procedures, monitoring procedures and quality assurance.
  • An understanding of research and research training in Australia and internationally.
  • The ability to source honours and postgraduate students and to ensure the successful delivery of postgraduate training within a multi-disciplinary school.
  • An ability to represent the School to external organisations such as the alumni, state and federal government agencies, industry, collaborating organisations, professional bodies and the general community.
  • A knowledge and understanding of the higher education sector and the issues it faces.
    Demonstrated commitment to equity and diversity and health, safety and well-being principles.

Applicants at Level E will also need to demonstrate a distinguished internationally recognised research record in a discipline relevant to the School.

Salary

An attractive remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful candidate.

Term of Position

The successful candidate will be appointed as Head of School for a fixed-term period of five years.  The substantive position of Associate Professor/Professor is tenurable.
