About the Organisation

Men are more likely to die prematurely across all age groups – life expectancy is five years lower for males than females. The total burden of disease and injury is 10% higher for men than women. There is a significant burden of undetected disease and low levels of health literacy among Australian men.

The Freemasons Foundation Centre for Men’s Health was started in 2007 to bring together a critical mass of researchers and practitioners interested in addressing health from a male gender perspective. Over the next five years we intend to extend our comprehensive and multidisciplinary research program significantly, developing a men’s health service designed to provide gender-specific health assessments and health promotion programs, and cultivating talented early career researchers within the field of men’s health.

The Centre is supported by a Scientific Advisory Committee comprised of 10 leaders from various disciplines relevant to men’s health. Our Board of Patrons is comprised of 20 leaders of industry, media and culture, sports, and government. You can learn more about the Centre by viewing our website
