The University of Adelaide’s Centre for Stem Cell Research is a collaborative initiative comprising 18 research groups located at the University, the Women’s and Children’s Hospital, the Institute of Medical and Veterinary Sciences, and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. The members of the Centre for Stem Cell Research undertakes internationally recognised and awarded research in areas such as the isolation of adult and cord blood stem cells, clinical applications including potential cures for stroke damage and cardiac repair, as well as novel approaches to diseases such as cystic fibrosis and leukaemia.

The focus of the Centre is on translating basic research into clinical and commercial outcomes via collaboration between its members, and with external partners. The Centre is committed to conducting world class research and providing excellent higher degree and research training opportunities.

This Fellowship will enable a researcher to be employed on a project in conjunction with one or more of the Centre’s Research Groups for a period of three years allowing them to become an independent researcher capable of building their own research group. You will have demonstrated significant research potential in your postgraduate and/or early postdoctoral or post-medical specialist training years, and will have no more than 5 years postdoctoral experience or its equivalent.

Position Requirements

You should have:

  • a doctorate or equivalent degree in the health sciences including biomedical sciences
  • excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • demonstrated ability to supervise high quality research students and act as a mentor to research trainees
  • a competitive record of early career research productivity in terms of publications and presentations at national and international meetings

The successful applicant will be appointed at an appropriate level depending on qualifications and relevant experience.

An employer superannuation contribution of 9% applies.

This fixed-term position is available from January 2009 for a period of 3 years.
