Job Reference Number: 15623

The University of Adelaide is the third oldest university in Australia, inaugurated in 1876. From the start it has been a progressive institution. It was, for example, the first Australian university to admit women. It is a centrally located university in a moderate-sized capital city which is recognised for its high quality lifestyle at a low price. Adelaide has a ‘liveability factor’ that has been ranked as one of the highest in the developed world. Adelaide’s low pollution levels, mediterranean climate and white beaches, encourage an outdoor cafe culture enhanced by cultural diversity in food and world class wineries. This multicultural city has a strong emphasis upon theatre and music festivals and is marked by the prevalence of its early twentieth century ‘federation period’ stone housing architecture. Adelaide residents pay less for quality housing, transport and consumables and enjoy a cost of living that is comparatively cheaper than other Australian capital cities.

The staff of the Politics Discipline at the University of Adelaide have a research focus which draws together theory and its applications, and have a strong commitment to collegiality in research and teaching. We are looking for new staff who will add to and renew that intellectual community.

We are seeking a scholar with teaching and research expertise in Australian Politics, preferably with a sub-focus on Public Policy. Candidates whose research includes an interest in areas such as gender, sexuality, Indigenous issues, race/ethnicity, disability and/or human rights, are particularly encouraged to apply. Candidates with an ability also to contribute to Political Theory will be positively considered.

You will be involved in teaching in a variety of courses at both the undergraduate and graduate level. The teaching schedule will vary from year to year but you are likely to be responsible for convening large semester-length first year and upper level courses in Australian Politics and/or Public Policy. Depending on your expertise, you may also contribute to the Political Theory stream in the Politics Discipline.

You will also be expected to contribute to the honours and coursework postgraduate seminar program, to honours and postgraduate research supervision and to the Politics Discipline’s broader research activities.
