Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Energy Systems

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship within the Centre for Energy Technology, based in the School of Chemical Engineering, and funded by the Energy Pipelines Cooperative Research Centre. The successful applicant will work within the EPCRC’s Research Program 3 contributing towards a national facility for future alternative energy transportation. The project will draw together energy systems, pipeline, materials and engineering expertise to assist industry to anticipate emerging fuels and combustion products related to future energy networks with a view to the planning and design of the next generation of new and reused pipelines.

In this project you will assess a range of non-carbon and low-carbon fuels, and combustion products, to determine their feasibility and hence their likely future potential as energy or carbon carriers. The project will involve the conceptual development, and detailed technical and economic assessment, of novel and complex energy processes and systems.

Position Requirements

The successful candidate will have strong alignment with the following:

  • a PhD in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering or related area of engineering or science. Applications will be considered from those who have submitted their PhDs (evidence of this should be provided) with an expectation of it being awarded in the near future; such evidence should be provided in a letter of reference from the primary PhD supervisor.
  • experience in the experimental or theoretical aspects of energy systems, energy technologies or energy transformations 
  • familiarity with the use of gaseous and liquid fuels for energy storage and/or transport
  • the ability to undertake, complete and write up scientific research within agreed timeframes
  • a strong publication record, relative to experience, with an emphasis on publications in high-quality, peer-reviewed, English-language journals and international conferences
  • the ability to work with a research group while also demonstrating independence under the limited direction of its supervisor
  • the ability to assist graduate and honours students
  • the ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English

Desirable attributes:

  • experience in the techno-economic assessment of energy systems
  • experience in modelling energy distribution systems and networks or the use of gaseous and liquid fuels for energy storage and transport
  • demonstrated ability to work effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders, including industry

Salary

(Level A) $60,594 - $73,800 per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications

Plus an employer superannuation contribution of 9% applies.

Term of Position

This fixed-term, full-time position is available immediately for a period of 1 year in the first instance with the possibility of renewal, subject to satisfactory progress and ongoing funding, for a period of up to 3 years.
