The Australian School of Petroleum is Australia’s pre-eminent centre for education, training, and research in the upstream petroleum industry and the only graduate school in petroleum geoscience in Australia.  Our structure is unique in the Asia-Pacific area, through our close integration of Petroleum Geoscience, Petroleum Engineering and Business Decision-making in one School.

The School’s research interests include geomechanics; carbon capture and storage (CCS); sedimentology and stratigraphy; reservoir characterisation, modelling and simulation; unconventional resources; completion and production techniques; formation damage; and economic evaluation and decision-making and risk analysis. 

The School has well-established links with the petroleum industry and related government organisations including Department for Manufacturing, Innovation, Trade, Resources and Energy, Geoscience Australia, and the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation.  It is a node of the Cooperative Research Centre for Greenhouse Gas Technologies (CO2CRC).

We are seeking to appoint to an academic position, a Lecturer in Petroleum Geoscience.  The research component of this position is funded by the CO2CRC, as such the successful applicant will be expected to pursue research in geomechanics applied to CO2 storage.

Position Requirements

You should have:

  • a PhD in structural geology or geomechanics
  • a willingness for the focus of your research to be geomechanics applied to CCS
  • a willingness and ability to teach topics in petroleum geoscience (preferably structural geology and seismic interpretation)
  • a track record of publications  
  • ability to supervise Honours, Masters and/or PhD students
  • excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written)
  • willingness and ability to participate effectively in administrative duties.

Salary

Salary: (Level B)   $80,019 per annum.

Plus an employer superannuation contribution of 17% applies.
