Professor of Pure Mathematics

The University of Adelaide is a member of Australia’s elite Group of Eight research-intensive universities. The School of Mathematical Sciences is internationally known for its research in Pure Mathematics, Applied Mathematics and Statistics. Mathematical Sciences is one of eight Schools within the Faculty of Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences. We are responsible for teaching the degree programs Bachelor of Mathematical Sciences and the Bachelor of Mathematical and Computer Sciences and are heavily involved in the new degree program in Computational Engineering, as well as providing high quality service teaching into other degree programs offered by the University.

We are seeking an experienced researcher with an international reputation in an area of Pure Mathematics. You will also be an enthusiastic contributor to our teaching programs at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and be willing to take a leading role in the continued development and expansion of the School.

It is anticipated that a subsequent Lecturer (level B) position will be advertised in Pure Mathematics. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to provide input into this competitive appointment.

 Position Requirements

You should have:

  • A PhD or equivalent in Pure Mathematics
  • An internationally recognised research record in Pure Mathematics with evidence of recent high calibre work and strong plans for future research directions.
  • A strong ability to maintain and enhance the School’s research income
  • Experience in undergraduate teaching, and a demonstrated strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate and post-graduate teaching and supervision.
  • High level leadership capabilities.
  • A willingness and readiness to represent Mathematical Sciences, and specifically Pure Mathematics, both within the University and the wider community.
  • High-level written and verbal communication skills.
  • High-level abilities as a motivator of staff and students and as a builder of effective teams, including the ability to interact positively with colleagues within the School.

Salary

An attractive remuneration package commensurate with the responsibilities of the position will be offered. This comprises AUD$162,782 (which includes a base salary of AUD$139,130 plus an employer superannuation contribution of 17%).
