Excellence in Education

Traditionally, the role of a university has been to provide knowledge and encourage inquiry. At the University of Adelaide we see a bigger picture. It’s not only about what our students learn or what our educators teach. It’s also about the impact each of us, individually and collectively, can make on the world.

This pursuit of excellence is made possible by our commitment to, and support of, our teaching staff and by our excellent research and teaching facilities including state-of-the-art buildings, labs and lecture theatres.

We pride ourselves on being an innovative and forward-looking university, and an Australian leader in research, focussing on real world problems and current issues. Likewise, we encourage our students to be future-looking and high-achieving; real world experience is an essential component of our degrees.

This fostering of learning achievement has resulted in a multitude of honours, prizes and awards being bestowed on our students. To date, the University has produced 105 Rhodes Scholars, five Nobel Laureates, 116 Fulbright Scholars as well as outstanding individuals and achievers such as Dr Andy Thomas of NASA and Dame Roma Mitchell, Australia's first woman judge, Queens Council, University Chancellor, and Governor of an Australian State.

Our teaching staff, many of who are among the world’s best in their fields, are widely recognised for their educational excellence. In addition to receiving many awards, professional honours, and grants for teaching and educational research, our staff are a trusted source of information for the community with a strong, influential media presence.

As an institution, the University of Adelaide is also recognised for its achievements. We are consistently ranked in the top 1% of universities in the world and lead the way in many industry standards and benchmarks. We’re proud of our links with and our standing within government, business, industry and the community. But most of all, we value the recognition we receive from the students themselves, their praise and positive feedback.
