Role of the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Student Experience)

The Pro Vice-Chancellor (Student Experience) provides strategic direction and leadership to the University of Adelaide as it continues to pursue its goal of excellence in education. Key to this goal is delivering an integrated, high-quality learning experience for each student, which encompasses all aspects of University life.

Key responsibilities include:

  • develop and implement the University's education strategy, including delivery of student-centric teaching, experiential learning opportunities and global learning pathways
  • oversee major projects aimed at transforming the student experience, including the development and implementation of an online education strategy and other innovative teaching approaches
  • oversee the quality assurance of programs and courses to ensure the integrity, sustainability and relevance of programs, through the management of reviews, analysis of cohort results and evaluations
  • ensure the seamless integration of all students, monitor the welfare, progress and academic achievment of students, and oversee resource allocation to programs to meet student expectations and deliver demonstrable learning outcomes
  • support the University's investment in teaching and learning and ensure that due recognition is given through teaching awards

The Learning and Quality Support and Online Development Units, the Maths Learning Centre, the Writing Centre, and the Manager, Hub Central report to the PVC(SE).

Biography of Professor Denise Kirkpatrick

Professor Denise Kirkpatrick has worked as an academic and senior leader and manager in open and distance, dual-mode and on-campus universities in Australia and the United Kingdom. She has worked as Pro Vice-Chancellor at the Open University (UK) and La Trobe University, Australia and led the strategic development of open, distance and e-learning in Australian universities including Monash, University of New England and Charles Sturt University. Denise has work as a consultant in Australia, Europe, South-East Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

She was an international auditor for the Australian Universities Quality Agency and the Austrian Quality Agency. She researches and publishes in the fields of open, distance and e-learning, and quality in Higher Education and was one of the original designers on the Mekong eSim project. Professor Kirkpatrick was President of the Australasian Council of Open, Distance and E-learning (ACODE) from 2003 - 2007 and is a member of the Executive Committee of the International Council on Distance and E-learning (ICDE).
