Outstanding Lecturers
The Australian Learning and Teaching Council (ALTC) has awarded eight University of Adelaide staff in the 2008 Citations for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning, worth $10,000 each.
The ALTC awarded seven individuals and one team led by University of Adelaide staff in the 2007 Citations for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning, worth $10,000 each.
This achievement follows the seven University of Adelaide teaching staff who were awarded by the ALTC in the 2006 Citations for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning.

Associate Professor Holger Maier Associate Professor Maier, from the School of Civil, Environmental & Mining Engineering, was presented with a $25,000 Australian University Award for Teaching Excellence in 2006 by the ALTC for Learning and Teaching in Higher Education. Associate Professor Maier is internationally renowned for his research into sustainable water resources and infrastructure management. He has been able to integrate his research and professional knowledge into his teaching and has been a pioneer in developing a number of innovative approaches to teaching, including online role-play simulations and other active learning methods for developing technical and generic graduate attributes. Professor Geoffrey Crisp Dr Crisp, from the Centre for Learning & Professional Development, was presented with a prestigious ALTC Associate Fellowship for excellence in learning and teaching - the only ALTC Fellowship in 2006 for South Australia and one of eight Associate Fellowships awarded nationally. Dr Crisp will use his 12-month Fellowship to research and develop online assessment for university students, and promote his findings to universities across Australia. [read more]
Associate Professor Elizabeth Koch OAM Associate Professor Koch, Head of Woodwind Studies at the Elder Conservatorium of Music, was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in 2006 for service to music education as a teacher of flute and as a mentor to young musicians. Ms Koch has been awarded in the 2007 Citations for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning by the ALTC. The accomplished flautist joined the University's academic staff in 2002, after 27 years as a member of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra. [read more]
Associate Professor Mark Jaksa Associate Professor Jaksa, from the School of Civil, Environmental & Mining Engineering, was presented the Vice-Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Learning and Teaching during December 2005 graduations. Associate Professor Jaksa is a Senior Lecturer and expert in geotechnical engineering. After studying at Adelaide in the late 1970s and early 1980s he worked in two consulting engineering practices. In 1988 he returned to the University to obtain his PhD and started his career in teaching, and has been at the University of Adelaide for more than 19 years. [read more]
