The University of Adelaide is a Registered Training Organisation (Registration Number 40080).
RTOs are registered for periods of up to five years. Following a successful audit in 2009, the University was re-registered until 31 December 2014.
Details about the University's registration and information about training packages and VET qualifications can also be found on the training.gov.au website. The training.gov.au website is a joint initiative of the Australian State and Territory Governments.
Under the National Vocational Education and Training Regulator Act 2011, Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) must be registered with the Australian Skills and Quality Authority (ASQA).
Established in July 2011, ASQA is the national regulator for Australia’s Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector. ASQA regulates programs and training providers to ensure nationally approved quality standards are met.
Additional information and updates are available from ASQA.
The South Australian Department of Further Education, Employment, Science and Technology (DFEEST) provide professional development opportunities and information for RTOs. DFEEST also publishes a monthly newsletter.

In order to maintain registration with ASQA, RTOs must comply with the conditions of their registration as set out in the National Vocational Education and Training Regulator Act 2011. The Act refers to other key legislative instruments that constitute the VET Quality Framework:
RTOs that deliver training and assessment to overseas students must also comply with all relevant requirements of the Education Services for Overseas Students Act 2000 and the National Code of Practice for Registration Authorities and Providers of Education and Training to Overseas Students 2007.
ASQA monitors RTOs to ensure compliance with legislation and standards. ASQA applies a risk management approach to its compliance monitoring activities. In determining if and when a monitoring audit is to be conducted, ASQA considers a number of risk indicators, including:
In assessing risk, ASQA is empowered by the National Vocational Education and Training Regulator Act 2011 to use a range of regulatory tools to gather data about the operations of RTOs. One of the regulatory tools ASQA uses is the conduct of audits. RTOs will usually be subject to audit during re-registration.
The University is currently registered to deliver a small number of VET programs and courses. To extend the scope of registration, the University must submit an application to ASQA. This application process is coordinated by Learning and Quality Support.
Depending on the nature of the qualification, approval may be required from the DVC&VP(A) as well as the Program Approval and Entry Committee.
If you wish to discuss the options to extend the scope of registration
please contact Learning and Quality Support for additional information and advice.
