Small Group Discovery Experience Community of Practice

A collegial community of scholars who explore SGDE for research and best practice.

Aims

Our community of practice was formed in 2015 with a focus on Teaching Large Classes. In 2016 we shifted focus to the design and implementation of SGDE across all class sizes. Our members represent all of the Faculties of the University and include academic staff, education specialists, learning advisors and students.

We have some key aims:

  • To be an inclusive and supportive forum for sharing experiences of discovery learning at the University of Adelaide
  • To focus on gathering and evaluating evidence for our practices and promote scholarship of teaching focused on SGDE
  • To provide leadership on the development of resources for students and teachers using SGDE
  • To encourage innovation and creativity in implementing experiences for students that communicate the excitement of discovery

Format

We meet once a month (usually in the Learning Innovations Studio) for food and conversation (as well as formal presentations).
