Legal Compliance Framework

Legal and Risk has developed an enterprise wide Legal Compliance Framework for phased implementation in 2009.

The framework has been designed to foster a strong compliance culture at the University and to provide assurances to Council that the risks posed by non-compliance with legislative and regulatory obligations are being addressed.

The framework development has involved not only consideration of the learning, teaching, research and commercial activities undertaken by the University, its controlled entities and associates, but also a consderation of the complex, diverse and multi-juristictional environment in which the University operates.

The framework applies to all University staf and others which agree to be bound by it, and it addresses compliance with obligations imposed by legislation, regulations and mandated codes.

What this means for the University

  • Protection from risks of con-compliance
  • Protection and advancement of the University's reputation and persuit of its strategic goals
  • Assurances to Council and external bodoes (eg Auditor General) that legal obligations are being identified and managed in a structured and consistant way
  • Formalisation of management responsibilities and recognition that obligations are institutional
  • Optimisation of resources and efficiency, by ensuring resources are committed to the highest priority risks and obligations

What this means for the University

  •  Protection from personal sanctions and penalties arising from non-compliance
  • A practical, effective and supported framework for identifying and managing obligations
  • Centralised coordination and streamlined approach to compliance
  • Added value and certainty to decision making and planning
  • More confident and better informed University personnel
