Your Risk Management Responsibilities

Every person who engages in University activities is impacted in some way by risks, so all staff have a role to play in being “risk aware”. This involves the identification, assessment and management of risks and opportunities in day-to-day decision making and planning as well as understanding and adhering to the reporting process.

Key Responsibilities

All academic and professional staff, titleholders and contractors

  • Comply with risk managment processes and practices
  • Cooperate with designated University risk management specialists
  • Report risks through the University Risk Register

Academic Units (Heads of School) and Administrative Units (Branch Managers)

  • Foster and encourage an environment where managing risk is accepted as the day-to-day responsibility of each staff member
  • Ensure that the principles and practices of risk management are communicated to staff and embedded into strategic and operational practices and planning processes
  • Notify extreme risks to Executive Dean or Vice President
  • Update progress on risks as requested
  • Report annually to Executive Dean or Vice President on the School/Branch risk profile

Executive Deans

  • Manage risks within the Faculty and Schools and other associated areas
  • Implement the Risk Management Policy and monitor and review risks appropriately
  • Notify risks affirmed to be "extreme" to the Vice-Chancellor
  • Update progress on risks as requested
  • Report annually to the University Risk Management Committee on the Faculty's risk profile

Vice Presidents

  • Manage risks within the Divisions and Branches
  • Ensure that adequate resources are available to implement the Risk Management Policy and review risks appropriately
  • Notify risks affirmed to be "extreme" to the Vice-Chancellor
  • Update progress on risks as required
  • Report annually to the University Risk Management Committee on the Division's risk profile

Legal & Risk Office

  • Coordinate the University's Risk Management program
  • Manage the University Risk Register
  • Facilitate the reporting process for internal and external bodies/stakeholders
