Reserve collection
- What is it ?
- The Reserve collection contains books that are in very heavy demand, usually because they have been put on an essential reading list. So that the maximum number of people may make use of these books, they are available only for short term use in the Library, or on overnight loan.
Journal articles which have been identified as essential reading are digitised and are accessible through the Library Catalogue. You can find them by searching under the author and title of the article or by the course number or your lecturer's name. Often your lecturer will make a link to a digitised journal article through MyUni.
- Where is it ?
- The Reserve collection is located on Level 3 South in the Reserve and Multimedia area - turn right as you come in to the Library and continue on past the Loans desk and the stairs. The Reserve collection is to your left.
- Hours
- Monday to Thursday: 9.00am to 10.00pm (after 8.00pm you'll need to ask at Service Enquiries)
Friday: 9.00am to 6.00pm
Saturday and Sunday: 1.00pm to 5.00pm
Please note: opening hours will vary in semester breaks.
- May I remove items for study ?
- You may borrow a maximum of two items at a time and use them for three hours. The loan may be renewed for a further three hours provided that you check first at the Reserve and Multimedia desk to make sure that no one else needs the item(s). You will need to produce your ID Card to borrow items from Reserve.
Never leave Reserve items unattended in the Library -- they remain your responsibility so long as they are on loan to you.
If you need only to make a photocopy of an item or a section of an item, you won't need to borrow it -- there are photocopiers in the area.
- May I borrow items overnight ?
- A maximum of two Reserve collection items may be borrowed for overnight use after 4.00pm. Items borrowed overnight from Reserve must be returned by the Reserve collection opening time (9.00am Mondays to Fridays; 1.00pm on Saturdays and Sundays) on the next day that the Library is open.
- Penalties for late return
- Because Reserve collection items are in very heavy demand the penalty for late return is five demerit points per hour or part of an hour.
If you accumulate sixty demerit points your Library borrowing privileges are withdrawn for one week -- you can borrow Reserve items for three hours to use within the Library, but you can't borrow them overnight.
More details about the demerit points scheme are available.
- Requests
- A Request may be placed on a book from the Reserve collection for a specific three hour period, or for borrowing on overnight loan. This may be done in person at the Reserve and Multimedia desk or by telephoning 8303 5273. A Request may be placed up to two weeks in advance of the time you will need the book.
Items on Request will be issued from the Reserve and Multimedia desk only to the person who has placed the Request and they must be collected within fifteen minutes of the arranged time.
