The Library recognises that users with disabilities may encounter difficulty in making full use of our resources. We welcome the opportunity to assist you and have provided a number of services for this purpose.
Users with a disability are invited to get in touch with the Waite Librarian so that any special requirements may be discussed. Please ask at the Service Enquiries desk or telephone 8313 7312.
Access
The Library is located on two levels of the Woolhouse Library building. Access to the main entrance can be from the street or from the adjacent carpark via the ramp.
A lift is available between the two levels of the building.
Guide dogs are permitted in all areas of the Library.
Emergency exits
Emergency exits are located on both levels of the library. On the main level, exits are the main entrance doors and also on the northern side of the building. On the lower level, exits are on the western side of the building and also through the CSIRO Library (Mon-Fri opening hours only).
All emergency exits unlock automatically on activation of the fire alarm.
Telephones
Library staff can provide a telephone if required - please ask if you need to make a call.
Library catalogue
The Library has a Library Search which is accessible from any computer connected to the Internet.
Users with a disability that prevents them from using a keyboard, or whose health may be affected by the types of screen displays at the catalogue terminals, may ask the staff member at the Service Enquiries desk to look up items for them.
Paging of items
If you are unable because of a disability to retrieve items from the shelves, we will try to collect them for you.
You will need to give us advance notice (telephone 8313 7312) of the items you require.
Paged items will be held at the Service Enquiries desk for 24 hours after the time for which they were requested.
Loans
Users with disabilities who are referred to the Library by Learning & Disability Access, may be entitled to
an extended loan period.
If another user places a Request on an item that has been borrowed for an extended loan period,
the loan period will be reduced to the minimum loan period for that item.
A loan may be renewed up to five times, provided that nobody has placed a Request on the book.
By arrangement with the Campus Librarian,
items from the Reserve collection may be borrowed for a longer loan period, if reading aids available
outside the Library are required.
Photocopying
If you are unable to use a photocopier because of a disability, the Library will do photocopying on your behalf. Please ask at the Service Enquiries Desk, or phone 8313 7312.
You should allow a minimum of 24 hours, Monday-Friday, for your request(s) to be processed.
A charge of 11 cents per A4 page is made for this service.
Toilets
A wheelchair accessible toilet is located on the main level of the library, in the north-eastern corner of the building.
