Document Delivery Request Forms

Which Form?

If you are requesting an Intercampus or Joint Store book or bound volume please use the Library catalogue Request button to place your request.

For all other requests use the Document Delivery Request form.

You must fill in a separate request form for each article or loan. An automated confirmation copy of each request you make is sent to your email for your records.

Desktop (web) Delivery

When you request the supply of a copy the Desktop delivery service allows you to retrieve an article direct from any internet connected computer, reducing delivery time by 2-4 days.   To use this service you will need access to the internet,  a web browser, email and Adobe Acrobat Reader.

The copy you requested is stored on a University server and an automated email supplies you with a URL and PIN to access the web page displaying your (PDF) documents.  Click on the URL then enter the email address that  is entered in the email address just above the PIN number.

Note that most articles are now supplied electronically but if an item is supplied to us by post it will be sent in the internal mail system.

Please "Remove" the document when you have successfully printed as this reduces congestion on our server.

Common Desktop delivery problems.

  • When filling in the request form check that the email contact information is one used regularly as this is the address that we will use to send the copy.
  • The PIN number is in the automated email we send.  If you have deliveries from more than one campus (Adelaide, Waite and Roseworthy) the PIN number in the email will be different for each campus.
  • If you have a problem with downloading an article sent to you please do not attempt to access the document more than three times. Contact Document Delivery staff for further assistance.
  • Allow popups in your web browser.
  • Print problems are common.  If you are at a University workstation you can contact ITS for assistance - Helpdesk on 8303 3000.  Please mention that you are downloading a document from "Ariel".
  • Do not bookmark the login page - use the URL provided in the email as this avoids problems if the server is moved.

Copyright

Australian Copyright Law requires that a copyright declaration be signed (electronic or print) when making any requests for a copy of an item.  The Austlii web site has a copy of section 49 of the Australian Copyright Act.

The Act specifies that:-

  • Library must obtain a separate individually signed declaration for each item requested.
  • That the material is required for the purpose of research or study.
  • That the material has not been supplied previously to the person.

Essentially fair dealing  provisions of the act (i.e.: copies that you can legally make without paying a royalty fee to the author), put basically, this allow you to request:-

  • 10% or one chapter of a book whichever is greater.
  • One article from an issue of a journal.
  • You may request more than one article from a journal issue if the articles relate to the same subject.

If you require more than the "fair dealing" amount please alert Document Delivery staff will purchase a copy of the article from a supplier that makes a royalty payment to the author.  There is a higher charge for this service - contact staff if you require a quote.  A low cost alternative may be to attempt a loan for the book/journal/conference etc.
