- Check that your contact information is correct. Particularly your email address, if it is a copy request, as this is the address we will use for your Desktop delivery.
Department detail must also be entered.

- Fill in the form or cut and paste a brief citation (no abstracts) into the Notes field. Note also that clicking the Fasttrack option doubles the cost of an Interlibrary request.

You must fill in a separate request form for each article or loan. An automated confirmation copy of each request you make is sent to your email for your records.
Payment Information
The Interlibrary requests and Intercampus copying (Adelaide, Roseworthy and Waite campuses) requests require prepayment either by obtaining a department account code or a cash payment. Charges are not applicable to SA Mental Health staff.
Remote students and students based at Teaching Hospitals who do not have access to department account codes may arrange to be invoiced at the end of each semester. Contact Document Delivery staff to arrange this.
Departmental account code / requisition number
For payment by a departmental account code first see your department administration officer to obtain the appropriate code. This account code or requisition number is then entered in the designated box on the request form.
Cash payment
First pay for the request and obtain a receipt at the Barr Smith Library Services desk on Level 3 South between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday (after hours at the Loans desk). At the Waite Library and at the Roseworthy Campus Library, please ask at the Library desk.
You will need a separate receipt for each request you want to make. Put the receipt number and the receipt date in the designated boxes on the request form before you click on Submit. NOTE: if the item cannot be supplied you must produce the correct receipt to get a refund.
Desktop (web) Delivery
When you request the supply of a copy the Desktop delivery service allows you to retrieve an article direct from any internet connected computer, reducing delivery time by 2-4 days. To use this service you will need access to the internet, a web browser, email and Adobe Acrobat Reader version 6 (this is free software).
The copy you requested is stored on a University server and an automated email supplies you with a URL and PIN to access the web page displaying your (PDF) documents. Click on the URL then enter the email address that is entered in the email address just above the PIN number.
Note that most articles are now supplied electronically but if an item is supplied to us by post it will be sent in the internal mail system.
Please "Remove" the document when you have successfully printed as this reduces congestion on our server.
Common Desktop delivery problems.
- When filling in the request form check that the email contact information is one used regularly as this is the address that we will use to send the copy.
- The PIN number is in the automated email we send. If you have deliveries from more than one campus (Adelaide, Waite and Roseworthy) the PIN number in the email will be different for each campus.
- If you have a problem with downloading an article sent to you please do not attempt to access the document more than three times. Contact Document Delivery staff for further assistance.
- Please check that you have Adobe Acrobat Reader version 6 or higher (this is free software) as some files will not open using older versions of Acrobat.
- Allow popups in your web browser.
- Print problems are common. If you are at a University workstation you can contact ITS for assistance - Helpdesk on 8303 3000. Please mention that you are downloading a document from "Ariel".
- Do not bookmark the login page - use the URL provided in the email as this avoids problems if the server is moved.
Copyright
Australian Copyright Law requires that a copyright declaration be signed (electronic or print) when making any requests for a copy of an item. The Austlii web site has a copy of section 49 of the Australian Copyright Act.
The Act specifies that:-
- Library must obtain a separate individually signed declaration for each item requested.
- That the material is required for the purpose of research or study.
- That the material has not been supplied previously to the person.
Essentially fair dealing provisions of the act (i.e.: copies that you can legally make without paying a royalty fee to the author), put basically, this allow you to request:-
- 10% or one chapter of a book whichever is greater.
- One article from an issue of a journal.
- You may request more than one article from a journal issue if the articles relate to the same subject.
If you require more than the "fair dealing" amount please alert Document Delivery staff will purchase a copy of the article from a supplier that makes a royalty payment to the author. There is a higher charge for this service - contact staff if you require a quote. A low cost alternative may be to attempt a loan for the book/journal/conference etc.
