Who may use the service?
The Interlibrary request service is available to faculty staff, postgraduate and honours students. We will supply 50 standard requests free of charge per person per calendar year.
Note that non standard costs (fast track/rush requests and overseas book loan requests), exceeding $25 per request are excluded. Account codes are required to make these requests.
Library titles in offsite storage are unavailable and undergraduate students may place Interlibrary requests to obtain articles from these journals.
Alumni, Community and Retired staff members of the library may use the Interlibrary request service by paying cash in advance. Fast track/rush requests are not available and requests only will be accepted for items available within Australia.

Please note increased charges apply as of 1 October 2011.

Making a request
Interlibrary requests should be made by using the electronic request form.
Books
Most libraries in Australia and overseas will lend books from their collections for use in other libraries. Any conditions laid down by the lending library must be strictly observed, for example, that the book be used only in the borrowing library.
In some circumstances the library may purchase a copy of your requested book instead of borrowing it from another library.
Requested items may be picked up from Barr Smith Library Service Enquiries. At the Waite Library and at the Roseworthy Campus Library, please ask at the Library desk.
Please ensure that the book is returned to Service Enquiries, or to the Library desk at the Branch libraries, in time for its return to the lending library by the due date. Renewals are not normally granted on loans of books from another library.
Articles
Articles from journals are obtained subject to the provisions of the Copyright Act 1968. Briefly stated, the Act restricts copying to one article from an issue of a journal, or two or more articles where they relate to the same subject. Please ask the Interlibrary Requests Supervisor, or your Branch Librarian, if you require more articles than the Copyright Act permits.
Theses
Most university libraries will not lend copies of their theses and so arrangements must be made to buy a copy.
Purchase of a thesis requires authorisation from your Research Librarian. Purchased theses will remain the property of the library and will be added to the library collection.
