Library tutorial for agricultural, animal & veterinary sciences

This tutorial introduces ways of finding information in books, journals, databases and Internet sources.
Lecturers and library staff will assume when you do essays and projects that you can search for information in the ways described here.

Section 1. The Library Web site

Look at the Library Web site to find out about the Library.

Section 2. Interpreting citations

From a reading list, decide which are citations for books, book chapters and journal articles

Section 3: Searching for known books and journals

Find the citations in the Library catalogue, using Title, Author and Journal or Newspaper title options

Section 4: Getting a topic overview

Have you been given an essay topic but no list of books to read?
It is easiest first to get an overview of the topic through reference sources and web sites.

Section 5: Searching for information: finding books

Find books on a topic using Keywords, Guided Keywords and Subject headings.

Section 6: Searching for information: finding journal articles

Find journal articles on a topic using databases such as CAB Abstracts
