  • Just-drinks.com  A drinks trade site with free access to daily industry news, feature articles, research and industry forums. Also provides a subscription service to market reports, statistics, company profiles and more.
  • Wine State Library of South Australia. Information on their wine related materials, with links to information on archival materials, pictorial materials, lists of publications.
  • Wine literature of the world  Created by the State Library of South Australia to highlight their large collection of wine-related materials. Many items are available as digitised images and include important wine records, information on grapes and wines of the world, the history of the Australian wine industry, wine labels, menus and more.
  • WineDefinitions.com  Includes wine definitions, pronunciations and learning guides for viticultural education.

Databases and wine search engines for viticulture and oenology

Access to fulltext electronic journals and databases from outside the University network will require authentication with username and password.  Current University of Adelaide students and staff are able to access e-resources from outside the University network using their University username (eg a1234567) and password. For registered contract users including PIRSA/SARDI, the Library barcode and last name must be used. Please contact the Waite Library if you need help with authentication.

AANRO:Australian Agriculture and Natural Resources Online Database
Incorporates Australian Bibliography of Agriculture (ABOA), Australian Rural Research in Progress (ARRIP) and Streamline.
Includes research in progress and other unpublished research information (grey literature) that is very difficult or impossible to find using internet search engines such as Google. In addition, AANRO provides a listing of all research being undertaken or has been undertaken previously in each drainage division, agro-ecological region, catchment, state or territory and is the only service that provides a drill-down mechanism to find this information.

Agricola
Database of the US National Library of Agriculture and cooperative organisations.Includes over 3 million article citations to material acquired by the U.S. National Agricultural Library and cooperating institutions. Subjects include all aspects of agriculture and allied disciplines, including animal and veterinary sciences, entomology, plant sciences, forestry, aquaculture and fisheries, farming and farming systems, agricultural economics, extension and education, food and human nutrition, and earth and environmental sciences.

Index with abstracts to over 11,000 journals as well as books, conferences, reports, theses etc. Subjects covered include animal sciences, veterinary sciences, dairy science and technology, plant breeding and genetics, crop sciences, crop protection, environmental and natural resources, forestry, post-harvest science and technology, agricultural biotechnology, biodegradation, agricultural engineering, agricultural economics, rural development and sociology, leisure, recreation and tourism, human nutrition, tropical diseases and medical parasitology.

Current Contents Connect
Current Contents Connect is a service by ISI (the Institute for Scientific Information) which provides access to the tables of contents and bibliographic data of current issues of more than 8,000 science, social sciences, arts and humanities leading scholarly journals. It has a useful email alert facility which allows weekly update search results to be emailed to you automatically.

Pesticide Properties Database
US ARS database used as one authoritative source of data for calculating pesticide movement in soils. Includes data such as soil sorption and soil half-life.

SciFinder scholar (Chemical Abstracts)
Access: Use of this resource is governed by license agreements which restrict access to Adelaide University staff and students, for purposes of non-commercial research, education or personal use. You can use the database on student/staff computers in all the Libraries. Access from outside the Library in University Departments needs installation of software -- follow the link for instructions. Access is not available outside the University network.

Scopus
Scopus
and Web of science are large databases covering science and other subjects and allowing cited reference searching (finding articles that have cited a given article). The 1980 onwards date range of Web of science makes it the more useful database for cited reference searching.
Scopus and Web of science can also be searched by topic but they lack the depth of coverage of a biological database such as Biosis previews.

VITIS-VEA
An international German or English-language literature database in the field of viticulture and enology. It covers grapevine morphology, physiology, and biochemistry, soil science, genetics and grapevine breeding, phytopathology and grapevine protection, cellar techniques, economics of viticulture and enology, and the microbiology of wine.

Web of Science
Comprising Science Citation Index; Social Sciences Citation Index; Arts and Humanities Citation Index.
Web of Science indexes a wide range of journal articles in all fields. As well as standard topic searches, it allows searches for articles that have cited a given author, article, book or other item.

  • Cork Quality Council Provides a source of information to the wine industry about the natural cork and quality control procedures. Includes news on the progress of investigations into cork taint.
  • New Zealand Screwcap Wine Seal Initiative  The web page aims to provide information about the Initiative, the wineries and wines involved, technical detail about screwcap wine seals, and performance of wines sealed using screwcaps.

Grapevines

  • Viticulture (Michigan State University) The viticulture information centre within the AgNIC alliance.  Includes links to the web on viticulture, mainly pertaining to the United States. Covers reference tools, botany, pests & diseases, vineyard management.
  • Viticulture (Dept. of Agriculture, Western Australia) Includes information on pests and diseases, growing grapevines in W.A. etc.

Health aspects of alcohol

  • Alcohol: problems and solutions (State Uni. of NY) Useful and balanced information on effects of alcohol on health, advertising impact of alcohol, alcohol law and policy etc, and links to other research sites.
  • Alcohol studies database  Contains citations of over 55,000 documents indexed by the Rutgers University Center of Alcohol Studies since 1987. The database focuses on scholarly and professional materials on beverage alcohol, its use, and related consequences.
  • Wine and Health (Australian Wine Research Institute) Includes a list of published papers, FAQs on wine and health, and links to other sources of information.

Law and regulations

  • Winelaw (U.S.) A division of the Wine Institute, this site contains information gained from the US Federal Register and includes full-text files of relevant Federal Regulations and Statutes.

Publishers web sites are included, however the level of access varies from tables of contents, abstracts of articles, or sometimes fulltext of articles.
