EAI: Expanded academic index - some hints on searching

At the INFOTRAC screen click on Proceed. to bring up the search bar.

Searching EAI

The default search field is for words intitle, citation, abstract. Click in the entry box and enter search term(s): using Boolean operators to create a search strategy to describe your topic.
Type AND between search terms where you want individual keywords from anywhere in the record. When you want to find records containing any of the alternative words for a concept, enclose the search words, separated by OR, in round brackets. Use an * asterisk for trucation to pick up plurals and variant endings.
eg.
impressionis* AND (theme* OR subject*)

(energy efficient OR green OR sustain*) AND (light* OR daylight*) AND (office* OR bank* OR commercial) AND (architecture OR design)

Click on Search to bring up the Citations, that is the first 20 records resulting from your search. Use the right and left icons to move to the next or previous pages in the list of records.

Display

Under the title, are a number of links to view the | Abstract | Text | Check for All Full Text Options | the number of full pages PDF | Text with Graphics | to bring up the abstract or full text for an article. Click the Mark box at the left of the title, then select View mark list to create a subset of Marked articles.

Output

At the end of each the list of Citations or at the end of a full record, Print, e-mail. and other retrieval options offers Browser Print or E-Mail Delivery. When you send a record or set to your e-mail account, your e-mail address will remain in place for the search session.

Modify a search strategy

At the end of each record, View other articles linked to these subjects: gives a list of the subject headings for the article with links to other articles on the subject.

In the blue left-hand column, under Back to... click on Search to bring up the search bar enabling you to vary your search strategy.

Use Limit the current search (optional) functions to restrict a set to articles with text, by date, to articles in the following journals, or to entries containing the following word(s).
To end your search session, from the blue left-hand column, under Back to... click Library to return to the Library's website.
