Databases for Business

Research Librarian: Bernadine Hardin

Introduction: Use databases (indexes) to search a range of resources and publishers (i.e.: journals articles, books, conference papers, newspaper articles, government reports etc) for your research topic.

The databases, recommended here are just a few of the hundreds subscribed to by the Library.  Some are subject, or country, specific; others are interdisciplinary and may have an international focus.  To maximize results look at the Library Skills Tutorial section on Search Technique (including videos with sound).

Journal titles may be found by searching the Catalogue and an "electronic resource" record may link you to full text articles on the publishers website.

Where a databases does not provide links from the article record to the online full text;  the library's Article Linker program enables you to Check full text options via other sources available through the library catalogue.

If the journal title you want is not in the Catalogue and you are either staff or a postgrad by research student, see the Interlibrary Request web page.

Abbreviated journal titles.

Some references/citations have abbreviated journal titles, these are standardized and may be found in print resources in the library, or on the internet by using the Abbreviations.com web site.  If the citation has an ISSN (International Standard Serial Number) you may be able to search for the number.  The Ulrichs International Periodicals database may also help to locate the correct journal.    Guessing the full title can waste time as you may not find the journal even though we may have a subscription.  Please contact your Research Librarian   Bernadine Hardin or the Library Research Help Desk on  83035372

Another interesting site for journal information is Journal Info this site is provided by Lund University Libraries.

DATABASES

If access to any databases on this web page have failed try using the link in the Catalogue record.

Most of the university's licence's for databases include a limit on the number of simultaneous users, ranging from 1-8, if you do see a note about access limits try again in about 30 minutes.

Your university authentication is required in a similar way when you are using our system through your own Internet Service Provider (ISP) from home, or from a workplace. If you use the University of Adelaide as your service provider, your student number and password are requested to enter that system too.

In all cases, you will need always to approach the (subscription) databases or journals by using our website - your access privilege depends on coming through the Library website.
