Civil & Environmental Engineering information resources

Indexes and databases for Civil & Environmental Engineering

Published indexes and abstracting services enable you to discover what has been written on your topic in individual articles from a wide range of journals, in papers given at conferences, and in books, patents and theses.
An indexing service provides bibliographical details, title of the article, author's name, the title of the journal, volume number, date, and page numbers. An abstracting service includes a summary of the paper.

The major indexes and abstracting services are available in electronic form, giving the flexibility of searching by keyword, the option of downloading or transferring records by email, links to the full text in some cases and access from outside the Library. Large journal publishers such as Wiley, Academic Press, Elsevier and technical societies offer electronic indexes to their own publications.

The Library retains a few specialised indexes and abstracting services in print form in the Reference Collection. These services are arranged usually by broad subject categories, and have indexes to authors and subjects.

For specific subjects go to
| Agriculture | Biology | Civil engineering | Coastal engineering | Construction | Computer applications | Earthquake engineering | Ecology | Environmental engineering - in Australia - international | Geotechnical engineering | Law | Management | Mathematical applications | Materials | Multidisciplinary | Professional practice | Structural engineering | Technology | Transportation | Water Supply |

For all aspects ofcivil and environmental engineering try Compendex and/or CEBD.

Ei CompendexWeb. 1970-
Compendex is available through Engineering Village 2 which gives access to Compendex, Compendex: Last 2 weeks,Website Abstracts.
EV2 has two search modes, Quick Search (the default screen) and Expert Search.
Use Expert Search in most cases, this allows you to control the search, and is more suitable for a literature search.

For earlier material see
Engineering index. 1884-1988.
Microfilm and Reference collection 620.005 E5
Arranged alphabetically by broad subject headings, with author and subject indexes.
It is important to read the cross-references under subject headings to other headings and sub-headings where material may be found. If you can't find what you need please check with the Engineering Librarian before giving up!

CEDB: Civil Engineering DataBase 1973-
The ASCE index to its journal articles, conference papers, manuals and reports. The Library subscribes to all of the ASCE journals, with electronic full text available for articles published from 1999.
Use the Full Text bar for your search terms
Use Boolean operators, and an asterisk * for trucation, to improve your search strategy
.
The result list will display only the most recent 100 titles; to view the rest of the results, amend your search strategy by choosing a date range or adding more subject terms.
Click on a title to get the full record, including links to full text where applicable.
Scroll down the record to the Keyword Terms and select a term, to retrieve other titles which share that subject.

For earlier ASCE material see
