Innovation and Commercialisation

Finding other articles on a topic

Published indexes and abstracting services enable you to discover what has been written on your topic in individual articles from a wide range of journals, in papers given at conferences, in books, patents and theses, and comment from newspapers.
An indexing service provides bibliographical details; the title of the article, author's name, the title of the journal, volume number, date, and page numbers.  An abstracting service includes a summary of the paper.

The Library subscribes to many of the major indexes and abstracting services in electronic form.  These are usually referred to as databases, and most can be accessed from outside the Library.  They offer the flexibility of searching by keyword, the option of downloading or transferring records by email, and in some cases have links to the full text of the articles.

This page provides links to potentially useful databases, with links to advice on search techniques for individual databases included.  Click here for general notes on search techniques.
