  • University of Adelaide Theses

  • To find higher degree theses from a particular Department use the Library Catalogue Any Keywords option and type in the words THESIS  ADELAIDE  UNIVERSITY plus words from the name of the Department.  This should retrieve any theses deposited in the Library from that Department.
     
  • Australian Digital Theses Project (ADTP)

  • The aim of this project is to establish a distributed database of the full text of Australian theses in digital form.  With Adelaide, there are ten institutions collaborating in the project: University of New South Wales (lead institution), University of Melbourne, University of Queensland, University of Sydney, Australian National University, Curtin University of Technology, Griffith University, University of Wollongong, Queeensland University of Technology..
    The ADT is a member of the Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (NDLTD) which produces EDT Digital Library.
     
  • ETD Digital Library

  • The Electronic Theses and Dissertations (ETD) participants are research universities with graduate programs, whose libraries keep copies of dissertations, theses, and special reports from undergraduate and graduate students. Copyright generally is retained by the authors, their institution, or both.


Databases listing theses
The Library has subscriptions to the following indexes which include abstracts of theses.

  • Dissertation Abstracts online. 1861-

  • Indexes higher degree theses submitted to accredited North American institutions and some other international institutions.  Although not kept by the Library, copies of these dissertations can be purchased from UMI under their Express Service, taking about a month to get here.  See your supervisor and the Engineering Librarian to arrange an 'urgent' order.  The cost comes from the book funds allocated for your Department.
  • Index to theses.  1970-

  • Indexes with abstracts of theses accepted for higher degrees by the universities of Great Britain and Ireland and the Council for National Academic Awards.
Printed indexes exist for the theses of many countries.  The Library has a selection of these, including -

    • Retrospective index to theses of Great Britain and Ireland 1716-1950.  5 volumes

    • Index to theses with abstracts accepted for higher degrees by the universities of Great Britain and Ireland and the Council for National Academic Awards.  1950-1989.

    for North American masters theses not listed in Dissertation abstracts,

    • Masters abstracts.  1962-1985.

    for Australian higher degree theses,

    • Union list of higher degree theses in Australian university libraries.  1959-1989.

    • BSL Reference collection  015.9405 U58
      An index to theses submitted for a higher degree at an Australian university, where a copy of the thesis is kept in the institution's library.  Higher degree theses submitted after 1989 may be listed in the Catalogue of the individual University Library.  More recent theses may be included in ADT.
