Atlas of New South Wales (1987)

Atlas of South Australia [web access] - interactive atlas with mapping capabilities. The earlier edition (1986) is available in print or via the web

Atlas of Tasmania (1965)

Atlas of Victoria (1982)

Atlas of the Australian people - documents the ethnic characteristics of the population from the 1986, 1991 & 1996 censuses

Australian place names (1989)

Climatic atlas of Australia - first published 1975-1979 supplemented by updates and new editions of various volumes

TOPOmap [non-networked CD-ROM] - database of full colour topographic maps of South Australia

Cartographic satellite atlas of the world (1998) - based on a view of Earth from 88km at a 1km resolution with a traditional cartographic overlay

National Geographic Atlas of the world  (6th edition, 1995)

Oxford atlas of the world (5th edition, 1997) 

Peters atlas of the world - the controversial projection used gives a very different representation of the earth

Getty Thesaurus of Geographic Names Online  - a database of over one million place names around the world with an emphasis on art, architecture and material culture

Discover our earth [web access] -  includes interactive data analysis and mapping tools which allow customized access to a large variety of Earth science data sets

United Nations atlas of the oceans [web access] - an information system on ocean issues which includes an interactive world map

World atlas of biodiversity [web access] - this atlas from UNEP-WCMC provides a map-based view of the world's living resources

World atlas of desertification  (2nd edition, 1997)


REGIONAL & NATIONAL ATLASES

A reasonably efficient way of discovering atlases/maps for individual nations or regions  is to search the catalogue using the Keywords option (but not the Keywords search engine style version). 
To search for individual countries or regions adapt the following searches to suit your purpose:

The Web has a vast amount of static and dynamic maps & atlases. Two gateways for discovering maps on the web are the World of Maps and World Atlas: Maps & Geography of the World

AAAS atlas of population & environment (2000) [web access] - contains both maps & expository text on population-environment linkages. Also available in print format
