South Australian archives

State Library of South Australia holds private, business and society archives.
Archival Database contains personal, business and society archives and the J.D.Somerville Oral History Collection.
South Australiana Database lists photographs and other pictorial material from the Library's collections, and references to articles and other citations from selected South Australian published material held in the Library.
SA Memory a multimedia website which highlights South Australia's people, places, issues and events from the colony's beginnings to the present day. Includes manuscripts, photographs, art works, architectural plans, posters, newspaper articles, printed ephemera, maps, and sound recordings.

Colonial records relating to issues that became Commonwealth responsibilities in 1901 were transferred to the National Archives of Australia
eg Customs, Defence,  Maritime, Post and Telegraph, Quarantine, Security etc etc.

National Archives of Australia
RecordSearch describes over 6 million records created by 9000 Australian Government agencies, mostly since 1901.
The web site has a number of Fact Sheets and Research Guides, downloadable for free.

The National Archives has reading rooms in Canberra and each state and territory capital. Addresses and hours of opening available from this fact sheet.

Register of Australian Archives and Manuscripts (RAAM), National Library of Australia.
Contains information contributed by libraries, archives, museums and historical societies on their holdings of personal papers and records of non-government organisations. Can be searched by name, occupation, or other terms.
RAAM is a successor to: Guide to collections of manuscripts relating to Australia, 1965-1995.
