EndNote: connecting to databases

EndNote allows direct connection to library catalogues and databases which are compliant with the Z39.50 protocol. The databases can be searched using the EndNote search interface, and records taken directly into an EndNote database. This is usually limited to library catalogues and free databases e.g. PubMed.

Note: It is advisable to search the native database instead because EndNote's search capabilities are not equal to those of databases. Instead you should search the database directly, save the records, and then import them into EndNote. See Importing records from databases.

If you wish to use this method of searching for the databases follow the instructions below:

Database Connection file
Library CatalogueDownload Mac: U_of_Adelaide.enz
Download Win: AUVoyager.enz
These connection files may already be provided with your version of EN.
PubMedUse the connection file provided with the EndNote program. If you are using an older version of EndNote, you may need to check the PubMed News Alert on the EndNote web site.
Other databasesSome connection files are provided with the EndNote software. Those for free databases should work. Those for databases to which we subscribe will not. In such cases, search the original database and import results into EndNote - see Importing records - filters.
