Back to EndNote home

EndNote Web is a simplified version of EndNote in which your own references are stored on an EndNote Web server in the United States not on your own computer. It is not recommended for postgraduate students and staff, who should instead use the full EndNote software.

Undergraduate students can try EndNote Web for handling references in essays.

  • Reach it through the EndNote Web site and register a password.
  • Use EndNote Web's HELP link to look at tutorials and other help.
  • The Library does not offer help with EndNote Web.
  • Keep backup copies of your reference details on your own computer.
You can:
  • use EndNote Web without installing EndNote software
  • have personal or shared folders of references
  • create references
  • import references from some databases
  • export references directly from Web of Science to EndNote Web
  • type temporary in-text citations into a .rtf copy of your Word paper, then format citations and the associated bibliography in an available output style
  • create a separate bibliography in an available output style

  • install a Cite While You Write plug-in on your own computer. Then, instead of typing temporary in-text citations into a paper, you can select them from EndNote Web. Get the plug-in through EndNote Web's HELP. The plug-in is not installed on Library computers.

You cannot:

  • import references from databases whose filters are not on EndNote Web
  • format bibliographies in output styles that are not on EndNote Web
  • use Journal term lists to convert abbreviations to full titles or vice versa.
