Keeping up to date

Many databases and electronic journals provide a free alerting service that will send updated results of a research topic search or tables of contents of a new journal issue to your email address or use RSS feeds (what's this?) to distribute the information.

Alerts

Large databases that provide a free email alerting service or RSS feed include (not an exhaustive list):

ScienceDirect (all subjects)
Web of Knowledge - includes: Web of Science (all subjects), Current Contents Connect (all subjects), Biosis Previews (biological sciences), CAB (agricultural & biological sciences), Inspec (engineering), Medline (biomedical sciences), Zoological Record
EbscoHost - includes numerous databases including Academic Search Premier (all subjects), Business Source Complete, Econlit (economics), PsycINFO (psychology)
PubMed (biomedical sciences)

See the specific database Help screens for instructions or contact your research or branch librarian for assistance.

Don't forget that many journals offer an alerting service for the contents of newly-added issues from their home pages.
However please note, that if you go directly to the publisher's web site for a journal, you may not be able to access the full-text of articles. For access to full-text where available, you'll need to search and link to the journal web site from the Library catalogue.
