Publishing in quality journals

Peer-reviewed journals

Peer-reviewed journals (often called refereed journals or scholarly journals) publish articles which have been evaluated by a group of individuals who are expert in the field.

These resources will help in identifying journals that are peer-reviewed:

For information on using Journal Citation Reports to determine journal impact factors, see the guide on Journal impact factors.

ERA journal rankings

For journal rankings used in the Excellence in Research Australia (ERA) initiative, see the University's web page on Journal Rankings.

Instructions to authors

Instructions to authors are available from the home page of most journals and also available in printed issues.

Use the Library catalogue, Google or Google Scholar to search for the journal home page by typing in the name of the journal (use quote marks in search engines - eg "ageing and society") and look for links to 'Instructions for authors' or 'Instructions for contributors', or similar.
