by Subject Heading to find works about an author (eg Aristophanes)

Or construct your own keyword searches. Here are some examples:

DATABASES & BIBLIOGRAPHIES

Use databases and bibliographies to find journal articles. For most topics the databases listed in the Databases for Classics guide should be sufficient for finding journal articles, but those researchers needing to undertake a more comprehensive literature search for textual and critical sources may need to consult:

L'Annee philologique [print]
[The premier index for identifying books & journal articles in Classics  - if it's unfamiliar, read this description before attempting to use it. Check individual authors in the Auteurs et Textes ("Authors and Texts") section of each annual printed volume]

Thesaurus Linguae Graecae (TLG) [non-networked database - only available in the Barr Smith Library]
[TLG is a computerised database of ancient Greek literature containing virtually all extant Greek literary texts from Homer (eighth century B.C.) to A.D. 600, as well as the texts of many Byzantine historiographical, lexicographical and scholastic writers. Documentary texts (most inscriptions and papyri) are not included in the database.
At present, TLG functions as a concordance to Greek literature referencing all occurrences of a particular word or phrase. Definitions and lexicographical information are not provided. The print publication Thesaurus Linguae Graecae : Canon of Greek authors and works provides an explanation of TLG's literary-historical & bibliographic substructure]

Additional sources for genres in literature such as prose fiction, epic literature, satire etc. are included in the Literature section of the Classical Studies Subject Guide.
