Searching the Web

There is a wealth of information on English literature subjects on the web. I find it particularly useful for background information on an author or a topic. To find the exact information you want you need to use a tool called a search engine, the best-known of which is Google.

There are links to Google and other search engines on the Search engines* page on the Library website.
*Please note: the Search engines page will open in a new browser window.

It will pay you to find out how to use search engines effectively - it's deceptively easy to get results, but you may not be seeing the best of what is on offer. The easiest way to do this is to visit my Research skills: Literature search techniques page and work through the How to find websites section.

Always bear in mind that you must treat the information you retrieve on the web with a fair degree of caution: just about anybody can put material up on a website. I strongly suggest that you have a look at the Evaluating your results section of my How to find websites page before you start searching for information on the web.
