CATALOGUE TIPS FOR FINDING BOOKS

It is very important to search the catalogue thoroughly for your topic. 
Searching for this region and its nations can be tricky.

Europe, Central - Here are entered works on the area included in the basins of the Danube, Elbe, and Rhine rivers.
Use Europe, Eastern for the region extending from the western borders of Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, and Slovenia eastward to the Ural Mountains, and sometimes expanded to include East Germany.

Also search for names of individual countries:

Academic Search Premier
Includes 8000 journals from all subject areas, and provides the full text of articles from over 4000 of those journals

JSTOR is a full text searchable library of journals (mainly in the social sciences and humanities) which contains full content of selected journals from their first issue up to 3-5 years ago

Project Muse full text of nearly 250 quality journal titles from 40 scholarly publishers covering the fields of history, politics etc

Periodicals Index Online (PIO)
A database of millions of articles published in the arts, humanities and social sciences. Coverage goes back 200 years, so it is very useful for finding articles from history journals over the past 100 years. Some full text available but many of the older journals are held either in the BSL or State Library - check catalogues
Full text searching of a smaller number of journals is available via Periodicals Archive Online.

Avalon Project from the Yale Law School contains collections of treaties, international commission reports etc. Click on 20th century and search by keyword (eg name of country) or investigate a collection such as From Versailles to NATO 1918-1949

Foreign relations of the United States from the US Department of State especially Volume XXIX, Eastern Europe; Eastern Mediterranean, 1969-1972

United States National Security Archive Electronic Briefing Books  provide online access to critical declassified records on issues including U.S. national security, foreign policy, diplomatic and military history, intelligence policy, and more. There are categories such as  EuropeNuclear History  etc
