Finding Books

The Barr Smith Library holds a more than adequate collection of books, journals and reference tools on art, but for in-depth research it may be necessary to consult the libraries of Flinders university and University of South Australia (City West campus), both of which have very good art collections. You can use your University of Adelaide card at those libraries.
The State Library also often holds useful titles.
All their catalogues can be consulted individually from here.
The Library of the Art Gallery of South Australia should be consulted as a last resort.
You can also rearch for titles and/or subjects Australia-wide by using Libraries Australia (Kinetica)

Finding journals

Journals not held by the BSL can be located on the database Serials in Australian Libraries (SIAL), where any location beginning with an S is a South Australian location.
You are also entitled to use the library's document delivery service to obtain items from other libraries.

Finding theses

Theses (dissertations) are not usually included in regular indexing services hence the need for the following databases.
There is no current index to Australian theses, but some are beginning to appear on the Australian Digital Theses Program.

You can also search for theses Australia-wide by using Libraries Australia (Kinetica).
Search using keywords for your topic and include the keyword thesis.

ProQuest dissertations and theses
Index to doctoral dissertations from North American institutions with some international coverage.

Index the theses doctoral theses from the UK & Ireland.

Managing your information

As you assemble your references and other bibliographic information you will need to use
Endnote to organise and format your citations. It is worth spending the time to learn this software as it will save you hours of work later on. Training and manuals are available.
