JSTOR is a full text searchable library of journals (mainly in the social sciences and humanities)
which contains full content of selected journals from their first issue up to 3-5 years ago

Project Muse

US National Archives...especially Teaching with documents

Avalon Project at the Yale Law School.... take a look at their Major Document Collections, which include African Americans as well as politics and foreign relations,especially the Cold War

John F Kennedy Memorial Library and Museum

Foreign relations of the United States from the US State Department.

United States National Security Archive Electronic Briefing Books provide online access to critical declassified records on issues including U.S. national security, foreign policy, diplomatic and military history, intelligence policy, and more.

Assessing the Soviet Threat: Early Cold War Years edited by Woodrow J. Kuhns<
This book was originally published by the Center for the Study of Intelligence and contains the full-text of a number of declassified US government documents produced by the CIA and its predecessor the Central Intelligence Group between 1946-1950.

Newspapers are also useful as sources of contemporary comment on events.

Factiva provides full text and indexing of hundreds of newspapers, mostly from the 1990's onwards, but the Washington Post is available full text from 1984 and the New York Times is available full text from June 1980 and abstracts from January 1, 1969.

New York times has an archive online, 1851-1980 and 1981-.
If free full text is not available, use the database to search and then the article can be found on New York Time Microfilm MF PER3.
The last 20 or so years are availalbe on Factiva.
